HERALD AND WEEKLY TIMES BUILDING

Working with CBRE, Lovell Chen Architects and specialist trades, Ivy completed restoration works to the former Herald & Weekly times building on the intersection of Flinders Street and Exhibition Street. Designed by HW & FB Tompkins and completed between 1921-1928, the façade dominates the Flinders Street skyline.

In one of the busiest CBD precincts, Ivy coordinated the restoration works with extensive programming to minimise construction impact on pedestrians, commercial tenants, residential building occupants and associated operations. Whilst maintaining full occupancy, works were completed using a combination of engineered ring system scaffold, travel towers, spider boom lifts and scissor lifts.

Key works included a major rebuild of the concrete parapet including resetting the existing bottle details, structural crack repairs, flat and moulded traditional 3 coat render repairs and painting works to the façade, steel windows, radio spires and sky signage.

A custom safety access system consisting of abseiling anchors, static lines and a continuous custom rail system was installed, engineered for the underside of the gutter cornice allowing for ease of access for all future maintenance. In addition, Ivy undertook minor steel window repairs and glazing replacement, waterproofing to the gutter cornice and stone remediations works consisting of indents and repointing repairs.
